From desserts like fresh cherry pie and cherry cheesecake to savory cherry sauces over grilled chicken, there are plenty of reasons to need to pit cherries, but sometimes it’s easier said than done. If you haven’t yet invested in a cherry pitter, have no fear, the chopstick and beer bottle trick is here — and it’s simpler than you think! This is an easy trick for how to pit cherries without a cherry pitter.
Remove the stem from the cherry and place it, stem side up, on top of the beer bottle.
Press the sharp end of the chopstick through the center of the cherry. You may have to dig around for the pit a bit, but you should be able to press it through into the bottle. The pits collect in the bottle for quick cleanup, just keep in mind that the red cherry juice can stain clothes and linens.
Now, if you are making cherry pie on a regular basis, I would probably buy a cherry pitter because they are quicker and easier. But if you want a simple and inexpensive way to pit cherries during the summer months and don’t want the hassle of another gadget, this trick is perfect!
