Summer Grapefruit and Basil Martini

It is the official first day of Summer! Bring on the season of BBQ’s, trips to the beach, sundress weather, and flip-flops! This celebration calls for a bright and summery cocktail!

This weekend I will be dancing in the Summer Solstice Parade! I signed up for a zumba dance class about a month ago and we started leaning an African dance that we will perform in the parade. We dance along with a band of drummers and horns. It is tons of fun and good exercise too!

How are you celebrating the Summer Solstice? Whatever your plans are, include this martini and taste a bit of summer!

  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, about 1 grapefruit
  • 1/4 cup (2 ounces) vodka
  • 5 large basil leaves, plus more for garnish
  • 1/4 teaspoon agave syrup

  • Pour the grapefruit juice and vodka into a cocktail shaker. Tear the basil leaves into small pieces and add them to the shaker. Add in the agave syrup and ice cubes. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Pour into a glass and garnish with basil leaves.

Makes 1 martini

Hi there – your PinIt button doesn’t work. When I click it to try and repin this recipe, I get an error that says that your domain doesn’t allow it. It’s confusing to have the button, but not allow pinning.

  2. Basil and grapefruit go really well together. I would suggest calling this a cocktail over a martini.
