It is the official first day of Summer! Bring on the season of BBQ’s, trips to the beach, sundress weather, and flip-flops! This celebration calls for a bright and summery cocktail!
This weekend I will be dancing in the Summer Solstice Parade! I signed up for a zumba dance class about a month ago and we started leaning an African dance that we will perform in the parade. We dance along with a band of drummers and horns. It is tons of fun and good exercise too!
How are you celebrating the Summer Solstice? Whatever your plans are, include this martini and taste a bit of summer!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, about 1 grapefruit
- 1/4 cup (2 ounces) vodka
- 5 large basil leaves, plus more for garnish
- 1/4 teaspoon agave syrup
Instructions:
- Pour the grapefruit juice and vodka into a cocktail shaker. Tear the basil leaves into small pieces and add them to the shaker. Add in the agave syrup and ice cubes. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Pour into a glass and garnish with basil leaves.

Hi there – your PinIt button doesn’t work. When I click it to try and repin this recipe, I get an error that says that your domain doesn’t allow it. It’s confusing to have the button, but not allow pinning.
Hi Jenn, Thanks for letting me know about the pinning button. I don’t know why it is not working. I’m trying to fix it. Here is the link to my pin http://pinterest.com/pin/199354720975961507/
Thanks! Emily
Pinning seems to be working now!
Basil and grapefruit go really well together. I would suggest calling this a cocktail over a martini.
