If you are wondering why I have not posted in a week, it is because I have been having way too much fun in New York. I went to attend a food styling class at the French Culinary Institute. We learned tons of tricks to make food look absolutely amazing for print and tv. This first picture was taken Tuesday night in Central Park. It had just rained and was so pretty! I loved the cold, crisp air – it was so refreshing from the 75 degree sunshine here in CA.

At the food styling class, our first task was to style the perfect burger…so not as easy as you think! Have you ever tried to find the perfect sesame seed bun? It is nearly impossible! We also made fake ice cream, which was really cool – it looks just like the real thing, but won’t melt under camera lights!

Another highlight of my trip was getting to tour Food Network studios. They don’t offer public tours, but the teacher of the class was a food stylist for Food Network so she got us in! It was so inspiring and motivational to visit! We met one of the guys who picks the ingredients for the chopped baskets – what a job that would be! Here is a picture of the production kitchen – they were prepping for a catering event when we visited!

I did so much while I was in New York – I think I might have to move there! The city is full of such energy and vibrancy! I love it!

Ice skating in Bryant Park – I had never been in an outside rink before!

View from the High Line in Chelsea, I think that is Hoboken in the Background.

Washington Square…

Rockefeller Center…

Can you go to New York without visiting one of David Chang’s restaurants?!? I went to Momofuku noodle bar.

Pork belly ramen and steamed shrimp bun…

I visited Amy’s Bread in Chelsea Market, which is supposed to be one of Ina Garten’s favorite places. I had a coconut dream bar (recommended by the woman who was working) – it was really good. I feel like Barefoot Contessa has a recipe for this, which I will have to look up!

Inside Chelsea market they have so many amazing little specialty food stores. I also went to Eataly and the Grand Central Station Market is nice too! This is Chelsea Market!

More of the park…

Nice view of the Empire State Building from a rooftop bar…

And a cute dog and iconic NYC taxi!

My trip was so much fun…Can I go back yet!!

Ok, now back to the kitchen to work on more recipes!
